    A charming Mediterranean sea-side port

    Scenic Saint-Raphaël is centrally located on the Côte d’Azur, near several other exciting places: the historic port town of Fréjus with its Roman ruins, Nice & an unspoiled mountainous area called l’Esterel, where hikers & climbers thrive. Beach lovers will also be in sandy heaven! The outdoors is easily accessible, by foot, bicycle, car & public transport.


    Well-equipped ceramics with new equipment

    • Located in a bustling commercial area, a 2-minute walk to the nearest bus stop, and a 25-minute walk to the town centre.

    • Coffee & tea, crockery, fridge, cutlery & microwave available.

    • Free on-site parking, nearby grocery & hardware stores.
    • An easy-going atmosphere - a typical weekday starts at 9:00 & we break for lunch between 12:30 & 1:30 pm & continue till 5 pm.
    • Studio available after hours & on weekends, but without the assistance of Lauren or Wendy.
    • Core studio values are creativity, friendship, kindness, respect, humour, humility, cleanliness & a positive attitude!

    Invest in & grow your art practice

    • New, state-of-the-art studio, ceramics equipment & material, a variety of earthenware & stoneware clays, glazes & firing.
    • Professional staff to assist you to pursue your art.
    • Individual & group tuition & crits.
    • Personal mentoring & coaching by Dr Wendy Gers.
    • Private hour-long Bonus Individual Creative Consultation (BICC) mentoring with Dr Wendy Gers, in which you can work on specific challenges facing your practice.


    • All local & international transport.
    • Accommodation & meals. Rental accommodation is easily available. Expect to pay between €400 & €900 for a studio to a one-bedroom apartment, depending on the season & location. 
    • Travel, health & cancellation insurance.
    • Excursions & activities that are not part of the Ceramics Residency program.


    • The nearest airport is Nice (2nd largest airport in France).
    • There is a bus direct from the Nice airport to Saint-Raphaël.
    •  There is also a train to Saint-Raphaël from the city center of Nice.
    • There is a high-speed train (TGV) direct from Paris. The TGV goes to other port towns along the Mediterranean, as well as Italy.
    • By train, it is 1h15 to Nice, 1h to Antibes, 45 mins. to Cannes, 1h20 to St. Tropez.


    • Please check with your French Embassy well in advance of travel, what type of visa, if any, you will need.

    Lauren Kearns

    Ceramic Artist

    Lauren received a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City & MFA in Ceramics at the University of Oregon. Her passion for ceramics has been developed & expressed through her work in porcelain.


    Lauren has worked in a variety of capacities in the ceramic and art field. She has taught ceramics & drawing at university level, as well as being a studio artist in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Puget Sound area, Carbondale & Loveland CO.


    As the Executive Director for the Carbondale Clay Center 2004-2009, her primary focus was community outreach & engagement. She also worked extensively in continuing education in Santa Barbara, CA, teaching ceramics & drawing.


    Her work has been shown in a number of well-known galleries around the United States & in Xixang, China. Lauren's work has also been featured in 500 Pitchers & 500 Teapots, both published by Lark Books & in the recent publication, American Artwork 2018.
